  What makes this church special is the mix of activities that feed the spirit and those that make a difference in the world today. It's known for its progressive stance on social justice, and the congregation tries to live out its faith through work in the world. In 2008 it won the Witherspoon award, one of the most prestigious in the country, for its work in this area.
  
  The congregation values inclusivity highly, and welcomes all comers, regardless of race, ethnic background or sexual orientation. It also has an active educational component, drawing in part from many members from the Stanford campus.
